Roxana Coz M.A. Musicology | Piano

Hello!

My name is Roxana. I am a pianist, musicologist, and teacher with over 15 years of experience dedicated to supporting children’s development through music. I am passionate about teaching in early childhood, fostering creative, safe and nurturing spaces where children can explore sound, express their emotions, and discover their full musical potential.

My Story

Since I was three years old I dreamed of becoming a pianist. I loved playing an old abandoned piano every time I visited my aunt’s house. When my family realized how serious my dream was, they supported me in beginning my path through art schools in Cuba. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts in Musicology, I discovered the power of music was the perfect vehicle to bring people from different backgrounds together. This realization led me to embark on an investigative journey into Cuban music roots and heritage and inspired me to write my first book, Rumberas Matanceras: Un Canto a la Memoria, which serves as a tribute to the often-overlooked impact of women in Cuban music throughout the centuries.

A couple of years later, I decided to pursue a Master’s Degree at UNAM in Mexico City and, along the way, I began exploring the endless possibilities that music offers to support children’s development. Beyond its artistic dimension, I gradually discovered its profound therapeutic value.

During my training in music therapy, I had the opportunity to observe the many benefits of group workshops with young people and adolescents with special needs at my university. Singing, ensemble playing, and musical improvisation became powerful tools that consistently supported emotional regulation and encouraged meaningful social interaction among participants.

In my recent work, I was also able to witness the significant progress of children with ADHD and autism, who, both in individualized sessions and group settings, gradually increased their attention span, experienced deeper relaxation and showed greater engagement overall. Within this process, the piano emerged as an exceptional instrument: its clear visual and tactile layout, its rhythmic and harmonic structure and its wide expressive range made it easier for children to organize their movements while focusing their attention and ultimately expressing their emotions safely and creatively. Through the piano, many of them were able to connect more deeply with music, with themselves, and with others.

That is why today I place my knowledge at the service of families, so that music can become a rich and meaningful tool in the journey we undertake during the first years of life.
